Catechists (Special Religious Education Teachers) come from all walks of life. They are teachers, secretaries, homemakers, plumbers, mechanics, nurses and students. They are rich and poor; male and female; young, middle-aged or elderly; cradle Catholics and converts.
Catechists are called by God to share their faith, so they are dedicated to spread the Word of God. They do their work with love. They try to be flexible, patient, generous, happy, willing to learn, courageous and energetic. Catechists enjoy and care about children. They try to make their students feel special. They are instrumental in helping children to experience God in their lives. Frequently they are the child’s only contact with the Church. Catechists are essential to the present and future growth of the Parish and Church. Catechists, like the children they teach, are to be cherished.Currently, in our parish, there are 13 Catechists providing religious education in five State Schools in Macquarie Fields and Glenfield. You are invited to share your faith with children in our parish by giving about two hours of your time each week during the school term for:
- Lesson Preparation,
- Prayer and
- Teaching for thirty minutes.
